The Forest on the Roof

For the food lovers amongst you, you may well have heard of The Forest on the Roof; the ski chalet inspired restaurant situated on the roof of Selfridges. From the wooden furniture topped with big check blankets and tree branches lining the walls one may say that it was rather charming. However, I couldn't help but feel that the array of silver disco baubles also adorning the walls made the restaurant feel a little less sophisticated and dare I say 90s school disco tacky? 

As for the food and drinks we began with a Maison-Sassy Cider (£7) each which were refreshingly delicious, I had the apple and my friend had the pear. As a vegetarian I did feel that the options were extremely limited with their only being one vegetarian dish on the menu but luckily it was delicious! The wild mushroom spelt risotto with raclette and rocket was the perfect portion size, the flavours were amazing and I could definitely justify the £14 cost. For my friend on the other hand, she opted for the salt-aged beef burger with a butter bun and club sauce and was surprised when the waiter asked if she wanted any sides such as chips as these were not included in the £14 price tag. Plus, she also said that she had tasted better burgers for much cheaper which was a shame.

Once finishing our mains we couldn't help but feel pressured into getting a dessert with the menus being placed on the table and the waiter immediately walking away. We held our ground and said we didn't want any, even when he came over and asked what desserts we would like - although they did sound scrumptious!

Overall, I would say that the restaurant was not what I had initially expected but if you're into decor with a bit of a quirky touch then this is the right place for you. Personally, I loved my food, so I would just say choose wisely and perhaps go for something a little more daring even if it is on the pricier side!
