The Forest on the Roof

For the food lovers amongst you, you may well have heard of The Forest on the Roof; the ski chalet inspired restaurant situated on the roof of Selfridges. From the wooden furniture topped with big check blankets and tree branches lining the walls one may say that it was rather charming. However, I couldn't help but feel that the array of silver disco baubles also adorning the walls made the restaurant feel a little less sophisticated and dare I say 90s school disco tacky?

As for the food and drinks we began with a Maison-Sassy Cider (£7) each which were refreshingly delicious, I had the apple and my friend had the pear. As a vegetarian I did feel that the options were extremely limited with their only being one vegetarian dish on the menu but luckily it was delicious! The wild mushroom spelt risotto with raclette and rocket was the perfect portion size, the flavours were amazing and I could definitely justify the £14 cost. For my friend on the other hand, she opted for the salt-aged beef burger with a butter bun and club sauce and was surprised when the waiter asked if she wanted any sides such as chips as these were not included in the £14 price tag. Plus, she also said that she had tasted better burgers for much cheaper which was a shame.

Mushroom Spelt Risotto

Once finishing our mains we couldn't help but feel pressured into getting a dessert with the menus being placed on the table and the waiter immediately walking away. We held our ground and said we didn't want any, even when he came over and asked what desserts we would like - although they did sound scrumptious!

Overall, I would say that the restaurant was not what I had initially expected but if you're into decor with a bit of a quirky touch then this is the right place for you. Personally, I loved my food, so I would just say choose wisely and perhaps go for something a little more daring even if it is on the pricier side!

Top Five LFWM Shows

As London Fashion Week Men's drew to a close on Monday, I thought it would be a good opportunity to reflect on the amazing collections and showcase some of the best pieces and trends to look out for in Autumn/Winter!

JOSEPH

British heritage underlies the nature of this collection, yet a playful sense of sportiness appears to bring it to life. The most notable detail is the curation of carefully selected and placed muted colours which compliment the hand made and cosy nature of the pieces which have a folk-like feel to them.

NIGEL CABOURN

I am an avid fan of Nigel Cabourn's clothing due to its raw feel which I believe is enhanced by his love for vintage influences. This collection did not let him down with his amazing camouflage print reconfirming the explorer feel to his brand and the combination of the navy all in one and borg lined leather jacket gave off a seriously cool working man look. http://www.cabourn.com/

E.TAUTZ

To perfect the geek-chic and slightly oversized look E.Tautz is the place for you. The collection modernises 70s style suits and smart day time wear, updating them with new fabrics and classic colours to form wearable and commercial pieces. The best aspect of all would have to be the range of shapes in the outerwear, especially that grid check coat in the middle!

LOU DALTON

Quirky, wearable and fun are all the boxes Lou Dalton for this collection. From her denim chambray jackets and trousers paired with colourful abstract prints to her beautifully synced colour palette of navy, copper orange, cream and teddy bear brown there is definitely something for everyone here. A truly visually stunning collection topped off with fun knitwear! https://www.loudalton.com/

CHRISTOPHER RAEBURN

Any collection with a sportier, street-style feel to it has my heart racing. Christopher Raeburn pulls it out of the bag with his effortlessly cool looks with webbing detail, patchwork knits and highlights of fluorescent yellow and ice blue. The diversity of the range is immense and its ability to connect and flow from one piece to another amazes me. A very well ranged and exciting show!

Two Thousand & Seventeen

Happy New Year!

What joy and excitement a new year brings. I am not one to believe in their being some radical change overnight but I love the wealth of opportunities it can give, with new goals being set and the positive mindset it brings to many. I have read and heard of 2017 being described as the year of 'you' which encourages more self-love and care which I think is brilliant as it is becoming increasingly important to look after ourselves and nourish our bodies.

I love to set myself a list of goals every year as motivation for improvement and achievements which I will be proud of when I look back at my year. I encourage you to do the same as there is no greater feeling than thinking yes I really made this my year; write yourself a list, keep it safe or put it up for all to see. If you are stuck for ideas here are some suggestions...

✩ Give to charity monthly
✩ Go to bed earlier
✩ Travel and become an explorer
✩ Learn to be a great cook
✩ Find a new hobby you love
✩ Less technology, more reality
✩ Have fun with fashion
✩ Save money, be creative
✩ Learn a new language
✩ Show and tell your appreciation

I hope this has inspired you and provided a springboard to create new ideas of your own. Let's make 2017 a kick-ass year!

All the best
